To intentionally make or try to make someone angry or offended, especially someone more powerful than you: He attacked his colleagues for not wanting to poke the bear, referring to them not wanting to confront the president. “Don’t poke the bear,” was the warning about crossing the boss.
MY WIFE ONCE SAID TO ME: (ABOUT A CRIMINAL ELEMENT, WHO WAS TRYING TO TAKE MONEY/SCARE/SCAM “U.S.”)=SHE TOLD ME, “NOT TO POKE THE BEAR”!! AND I SAID TO HER=”THEY ARE THE ONES, WHO HAVE POKED THE BEAR, “ME”, AND I HANDLED THAT SITUATION LEGALLY, AND SHE STILL NEVER GAVE ME CREDIT FOR “DOING WHAT I DID”=BUT, HEYYY, NO MATTER= I have had to “be THE BEAR”, many times within my 65 years of life, and AS “THE WARRIOR”, I am usually very Mild Mannered, as most “Warriors” are, but When you Keep messing with me or My Loved Ones=I sometimes get “LIKE THE HULK” and “YOU WOULD NOT/WON’T LIKE ME, WHEN I’M ANGRY”!!!
SO, WHEN I SEE/LOOK AT WHEN A “smaller” Country, or Nation, or Group, even “IF” not Smaller, seeks to Keep “POKING THE BEAR” WHICH IS THE “SPIRIT” OF SUCH A “POKED NATION”; THEN WHAT SHOULD ANYONE OF GROUP OR NATION EXPECT FROM “THE BEAR”???????????
