New Study Finds Link Between Black Hair Products and Breast Cancer
Why are Black women more affected?
“This is because Black women have not been picked to take part in most research studies looking at this link. Also, studies to test this link have only used breast cancer cell lines from white women,” Treviño says.
“Black women are more likely to buy and use hair products with these types of chemicals, but we do not have a lot of data about how parabens may increase breast cancer risk in Black women,” Treviño adds.
Featured on BlackDoctor Boston University’s Black Women’s Health Study which tracked 59,000 women who enrolled in the study in 1995, did not find a link between moderate use of hair relaxers and a higher risk of breast cancer but did find evidence that “heavy use of lye-containing hair relaxers” may be associated with a more aggressive form of breast cancer. So what exactly are parabens?
Parabens are a group of chemicals that keep mold and bacteria from growing on beauty products, which prolongs their shelf lives. While parabens may be good for prolonging the shelf life of products, in humans, parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which can lead to dangerous cell growth.
That is precisely why Love has decided to go the natural route.
“I’d rather be natural and not have to worry about another what if again,” she adds...CONT...

“REGGAE RISE UP”: Holo Holo Music Festival (LAS VEGAS DOWNTOWN MAY 6&7 2023)

Powerhouse festival producers, Good Vibez and Live Nite Events are joining forces to bring the Holo Holo Music Festival to Las Vegas, Nevada on May 6-7, 2023! Having earned its name as the ninth island of Hawaii, we couldn't think of a better destination for our next Holo Holo journey than Sin City. For two days, we'll take over the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center, transforming the streets into an oasis full of reggae music, island style food and craft vendors.
Holo Holo Vegas will host Hawaiian heavy hitters Kolohe Kai, Anuhea, Sammy Johnson, Paula Fuga, Eli Mac and Ka'ikana Scanlan, while paying tribute to the legends of the islands with Kapena and Ekolu. Rounding out the 2023 Vegas lineup are reggae favorites J Boog, Collie Buddz, Steel Pulse and Katchafire plus Western Conference.
'Holo Holo' means 'to travel, to sail, to move', and invokes the spirit of a familiar expression one hears often in Hawai'i between friends like 'let's holo holo up country'. The first leg of the Holo Holo Music Festival landed in Northern California in 2022, but this event desires movement, so carrying Holo Holo to Vegas in 2023 is a natural progression for its fluidity.
For the past 25 years, Good Vibez Presents has produced hundreds of unforgettable, multidimensional concerts and festivals along the West Coast, Hawaii, Arizona, North Carolina and Mexico, most notably the largest reggae-rock festival in the country; the California Roots Music & Arts Festival in Monterey. Good Vibez events are rooted in supporting nonprofits and small businesses and using their platforms to elevate creatives in their community. Good Vibez is stoked to partner with Live Nite Events, who produces the Reggae Rise Up Festivals, to bring Holo Holo to Vegas and bring people together with mindful, sustainable gatherings rich with music and art.
Live Nite Events is a full-service entertainment company bringing you top-tier concerts and events in Utah, Florida, Nevada, and Maryland. Founded in 2012, LNE has grown into one of the most prominent independent event companies in the U.S. Maintaining focus on the fan experience while both meeting and exceeding the needs of the diverse lineup of artists represented, LNE is in the business of making memories for fans that will last a lifetime!
